Updates on Zune/Pink/WinMo7
Quoting myself from the previous post to draw attention to what’s changed:
Zune … is coming to Xbox first, but that is followed immediately by WinMo, later by Media Center and eventually Windows Live.
… adds on XNA capabilities.
The new Windows Mobile 7 is built on top of Windows Embedded CE 6…
…here’s the takeaway:
6. Windows Phone devices with “Pink/Zune” will be closely controlled in software by MS … Premium pricing.
7. WinMo core-based devices … UX can be replaced by manufacturer … “Low-end” pricing.
Zune arrived on “Windows Live” first in that Zune Pass streaming runs on Azure, just like LOE. Integration shall follow after Wave 4.
Zune has arrived on Media Center second with the RTW of InternetTV 3.2.1. While it is limited to podcasts right now, more services will be added over time. I would also recommend taking another look at ZuneHD’s TV UI to get a glimpse at Media Center 8.
Zune on Xbox is in preview right now and should be out soon.
The final piece of the puzzle is WinMo7 integration, and Ballmer has confirmed it to Engadget.
WinMo7 is definitely getting “Xbox” gaming.
WinMo7 is built on top of Windows Embedded CE 6 R3
Windows Phone (“Pink”) device UI is fully controlled by Microsoft.
WinMo “core” devices allow OEM and operator-created UIs.
That’s all I’ve got right now.
